Carmen (35/10-10S) – Top hole

What happened:

The casing string run was a mixed string of VAM TOP and VAM 21 with VAP TOP run first. This meant that when the primary casing hanger was run, a crossover VAM 21 pin x VAM TOP box was required to allow the primary hanger to be run.

What was planned:

Sidetrack 9 7/8″ casing hanger primary assembly used a VAM TOP pin connection.
Sidetrack 9 7/8″ casing hanger back up assembly used a VAM 21 pin connection.

What was learned:

If the primary hanger failed for any reason, not only would it have to be laid down but also the VAM 21 x VAM TOP crossover below it. To keep the tally straight a VAM 21 pup joint of the same effective length as the crossover is required.

What actions are required:

Plan on sending a matching pup of the same length as the crossover if a similar scenario encountered in future i.e. primary and back-up hangers using different connections.
